Range Logistics is a third-party logistics (3PL) provider founding in 2013 in St. Louis Missouri. Over the years, Range has become the trusted 3PL solution for many companies in the Food & Beverage, Manufacturing and Raw Materials industries. Range Logistics’ commitment to educating staff above industry standards with all personnel achieving CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) certification through APICS International has laid the foundation for success. Another key reason for success has been Range’s commitment to environmental sustainability, which is reflected in its SmartWay certification.

By becoming SmartWay certified, Range Logistics will contribute to the EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership savings of 379 million barrels of oil, $52 billion on fuel costs, 162 million metric tons of CO2, 2.8 million short tons of NOx and 114,000 short tons of PM. This is equivalent to eliminating annual energy use in over 24 million homes. By joining SmartWay Transport Partnership, Range Logistics demonstrates its strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.

What is SmartWay Certification?

SmartWay certification is a program run by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in United States that recognizes freight carriers, shippers, and logistics companies for their commitment to reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency.

The program is aimed at reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants from the transportation sector, which is a significant contributor to air pollution and climate change. SmartWay certification is an important credential for logistics companies as it demonstrates their commitment to sustainability.

To become SmartWay certified, companies must meet certain performance metrics and maintain a high level of environmental responsibility.

What is the significance of achieving SmartWay certification?

The SmartWay program is not easily achieved. Range Logistics had to meet strict environmental performance criteria set by the EPA. This included improving fuel efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and implementing sustainable practices throughout their entire operations. Range had to submit data on their emissions and fuel consumption, as well as demonstrate a commitment to reducing waste. These efforts both help the environment and demonstrate Range Logistics’ commitment to sustainability

How is SmartWay Certification Achieved?

SmartWay Certification is based on a set of performance metrics and environmental standards developed by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to help reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency in the transportation industry. To become SmartWay certified, Range Logistics had to meet criteria in several key areas:

Carbon footprint:

Range tracked their greenhouse gas emissions and implemented strategies to reduce their carbon footprint, which as using low-emission vehicles and reducing fuel consumption where possible.

Fuel efficiency:

Range had to demonstrate they are using fuel-efficient equipment and vehicles, and had to implement strategies to improve fuel economy, such as optimizing routes and reducing idle time.

Environmental responsibility:

Range had to demonstrate a commitment to environmental responsibility by implementing sustainable practices, reducing waste, and minimizing their impact on the environment.

To achieve SmartWay certification, Range Logistics had to submit data on their performance in each of these areas and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing improvement. The EPA then evaluated this data and assigned a score based on their environmental performance. Range had to score high enough to be awarded SmartWay Certified designation.
